Time to reflect

As discussed in my previous blog I chose Digital audio and more specifically to do a podcast. Coming into this it was all new to me and something i've never tried doing before. I learned a lot along the way and would like to reflect on the experience in this blog!
Myself and two other came together to discuss the ideas we had. We all agreed that a podcast was something we would all be interested in making and since we couldn't find a specific topic to talk about that would grasp the listeners attention we decided to do an interview style podcast using story-corp inspired questions which was suggested by our lecturer Sean.

As our group consisted of two girls and one boy we thought that it would be interesting to ask the same questions to each boy and girl and sort of compare their answers and see what differed between them. As a group we decided that I was going to be the interviewer as such. I enjoyed picking out what questions to ask and I was excited to get to know my fellow peers a bit more.
It was also great to learn how important communication is, especially in a small team everyone needs to be sure of the role they have to play.

We created a whatsapp group and all decided a day to meet up and record our interview. Kevin and Cliodhna prepared their answers briefly so they wouldn't be thrown off by and of the questions. On our first try recording it we were all a bit nervous and shy when we began to record. None of us had a microphone to record professionally so our only option was to record it using voice memos on my phone which didn't work out too bad. On our third try we finally were happy with the result. We wanted the interview to be lighthearted and easy to listen to which I hope is what we achieved.

Personally I always found it very interesting how using audio can affect the mood and feel of a movie. I took advantage of studying digital audio and used the opportunity to research techniques directors use when making a film and why they choose certain songs and sound affects etc. I found it very interesting and I definitely learned a lot from researching it.

Looking back on what I have done I am proud of what we created as it was our first time ever doing anything like this. It has also helped my confidence as I used to hate listening to my own voice but I got used to it! If I was to change anything I probably would have made it a little bit longer and added a few more sound effects during editing but hopefully I will learn them skills overtime!

Write soon,
Leslie

Reflecting on our Digital Journalism journey

Work is all done, now it's time for the fun bit.. the reflection!  At first I was a bit apprehensive about this mission as I wasn't too sure on the angle I wanted to take but I am really happy with the end product. As a team we all worked really well together. We took turns with all aspects of the video including the filming and editing. As we were doing our video on fake news we decided to make our video look like a real news feature, including a banner going along the bottom. From completing this mission I learned a lot about fake news and how people can be gullible when asked something false in the form of a question. I feel we achieved our main message in the video which is to show that when you ask someone something in the form of a question they will nearly always believe it.  As part of our research we also looked up fake news stories from the past and how they came out to be untrue. Surprisingly there was a lot more than I originally expected to be. I guess f

My first few college assignments! A reflection

Welcome back to my blog!  I have decided to write a quick blog post on my first few weeks in college and how I have been getting on with assignments.  As it is my first year in college I was apprehensive and anxious to start, I wasn't sure how I was going to handle my time and get everything done, but so far I have managed quite well.  The module that I have enjoyed the most since starting college would have to be Creative Digital Media. Even though out of all the modules it is the one that involves the most work, I have thoroughly enjoyed the wide aray of subjects we get to choose from and the tasks that we have to complete within them.  The youtubing task was the most fun for me. I loved getting the opportunity to film and improve my editing skills. Although I am proud I have done so far, I do feel I can still improve in some areas.  It is taking me some time to get the hang of using Adobe premiere Pro as it is all new to me but hopefully over time I increase my confiden
