Reflecting on our Digital Journalism journey

Work is all done, now it's time for the fun bit.. the reflection!
At first I was a bit apprehensive about this mission as I wasn't too sure on the angle I wanted to take but I am really happy with the end product. As a team we all worked really well together. We took turns with all aspects of the video including the filming and editing. As we were doing our video on fake news we decided to make our video look like a real news feature, including a banner going along the bottom. From completing this mission I learned a lot about fake news and how people can be gullible when asked something false in the form of a question. I feel we achieved our main message in the video which is to show that when you ask someone something in the form of a question they will nearly always believe it.

As part of our research we also looked up fake news stories from the past and how they came out to be untrue. Surprisingly there was a lot more than I originally expected to be. I guess fake news makes word spread about the page source and the company running it. From celebrities cheating on their spouses to peoples political agenda's, fake news can and does have a huge impact on people's lives.

If I were to go back and change anything about our work I probably would have added a background of our work process into the video to show people how and why we got to the stage we did. I think it would have been interesting to see but overall I am really proud of the work we did. I was planning on linking the video to this blog post but unfortunately I am unable to because my laptop isn't co-operating with me, but I am sure that one day you will find the video on BBC or the likes!

Semester one is over and done how crazy. These past few months flew by and I have already learned so much. Over the coming months I hope to really get the grasp of using adobe premiere pro as it does take a while to get used to. I am really proud of the work I have produced so far and I also am getting a hang of this blog thing. Thank you so much for reading.

Write soon,
Leslie

Youtubing

For my next creative digital media task I chose to do Youtubing. I chose this because I have always loved watching youtube videos and it is something I have a strong interest in. I teamed up with my friend Mel and together we sat down and put our ideas together. We decided to go for the 'beauty' side of youtube and do a chit chat get ready with us kind of video as this is something we would both watch in our spare time. We organised a time to meet up and film our video. It took a while to find a suitable room but after a few tries we found a suitable place and got the camera rolling. We were a bit nervous at the beginning but as time went on we were more comfortable which shows in the video. I edited the main video and Mel edited the vlog that we done documenting the process of filming our video. I found it quite difficult to edit as it is something i've never done before and it was a long video (46 minutes). I managed to edit it down to 24 mins. I wanted to add more skil...

My first few college assignments! A reflection

Welcome back to my blog!  I have decided to write a quick blog post on my first few weeks in college and how I have been getting on with assignments.  As it is my first year in college I was apprehensive and anxious to start, I wasn't sure how I was going to handle my time and get everything done, but so far I have managed quite well.  The module that I have enjoyed the most since starting college would have to be Creative Digital Media. Even though out of all the modules it is the one that involves the most work, I have thoroughly enjoyed the wide aray of subjects we get to choose from and the tasks that we have to complete within them.  The youtubing task was the most fun for me. I loved getting the opportunity to film and improve my editing skills. Although I am proud I have done so far, I do feel I can still improve in some areas.  It is taking me some time to get the hang of using Adobe premiere Pro as it is all new to me but hopefully over ti...

First of many!

This blog post is going to hopefully provide you with some interesting facts about myself even though I don't have much to work with! Im going to try keep this short and sweet. My name is Leslie and I just turned 21 this Wednesday (and before you ask, no I don't feel old yet). I live in a bungalow in a field in Kilbride but thankfully I drive or else I would have to walk ages to get to anywhere which does sound very appealing to me! This is my second time attempting college. I went directly to college when I finished my leaving cert around 3 years ago now but realised very quickly that the course wasn't for me. I am extremely indecisive on what I want to do in life and on simple decisions in general but i'm hoping to get into film in some way so fingers crossed I don't drop out of this course. Hopefully this will be the first of many blog posts I write.
